This week a positive tattoo piece from Living Black on SBS on Sunday 13 May at 4:30pm.

This week Living Black travels the country in search of the top ranking Indigenous news stories.

From traditional ceremony to cosmetic design the practice of tattooing has been performed throughout the world for centuries.

From the stars of the screen and stage to the cultural Ta Moko markings of the Maori to the forced identification of prisoners in Nazi Concentration camps, the tattoo has made its mark across the ages in many shapes and sizes.

Now a popular new phase using Indigenous art has emerged and with it controversy over the use and misuse of sacred symbols.

Josh Ridgeway reports this week on this practice that is gaining widespread rapid appeal across the country. His report features international tattoo anthropologist and star of the U.S. television series Tattoo Hunter Lars Krutek and popular singer songwriter Dan Sultan.

Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Wheels & Dollbaby - the cult Australian brand has released this previously unseen archive image from the vault exclusively in Ink’d Magazine.

The iconic shot features the brands designer and founder Melanie Greensmith perched on her original 1964 Tiger 110- 650 Triumph motorcycle. Greensmith famously had the vintage bike shipped out from England after a homecoming which launched the first Wheels & Dollbaby boutique – and the Triumph found a worthy home parked midway through the store’s floor plan !

Captured on grainy black and white film by talented local Perth photographer Michael Cuba, the charm of this image lies in it’s unashamed rock n roll character – The Rubber dress and Jacket typical of the strong English influence that typified the time – whilst showcasing the soon be signature Wheels & Dollbaby silhouette.

Fast forward to 2012 and the label’s most recent collaboration with internationally renowned photographer Ellen Von Unwerth.

The same Wheels & Dollbaby signature glamour and edge can be seen- amplified by the surrounds of the antique Theatre Dejazet in one of the oldest historical neighbourhoods in Paris.
